Family escapes fire at Boardman home
BOARDMAN -- A woman and her children escaped uninjured after their home at 820 Larkridge Ave. caught fire around 10:45 a.m. Sunday.
The mother said she noticed what may have been a spark on or near a space heater, Assistant Fire Chief Joe Rosky said. He wasn't sure how many children were there and didn't know their ages. The woman's husband wasn't home at the time, Rosky said.
The cause and origin of the fire are undetermined, but the blaze is believed to be accidental, Rosky noted.
Damage was estimated at $130,000, and it was "close to a total loss," he said.
Officials from the insurance company will conduct their own investigation; electrical engineers will be on the scene to check the home's wiring, Rosky said.
