VOLLEYBALL Massillon Jackson reigns as Federal League champ



Hubbard won twice to improve to 18-2.
UNIONTOWN -- The Massillon Jackson High volleyball team, for the second year in a row, reigns as regular season and tournament champion following Saturday's Federal League tournament at Lake High School.
Jackson (12-6, 9-1 FL) compiled 17 points. Fitch and North Canton Hoover tied for second place with 13 points.
Jackson defeated Fitch 25-19 and 25-23 in the championship game. The Falcons (12-9, 6-4) were led by Meghan McDermott with four kills. Nicole Smaldino had eight digs.
Hoover defeated Boardman 25-21, 25-14 for third place. April Melquist scored seven points, with three aces to pace the Spartans. Ali Sfara had six kills and Katie Spatara had eight assists.
Hubbard 25-25, Garrettsville Garfield 15-12
CANAL FULTON -- Callie Oyler had 12 kills and three aces, Lauren Ferguson made 10 kills and 13 points, Maggie Bogdan had nine kills and six blocks, and Corrie Gasser made 24 assists, nine digs ands 11 points to lead Hubbard at Northwest High.
Hubbard 25-25, Canal Fulton 20-19
CANAL FULTON -- Oyler had eight kills and two aces while Brittany Lange had eight kills and seven blocks.
Karen Cover had six kills, two aces and 11 digs while Gasser had 22 assists, seven digs and 13 points.
Kim Budd and Kate Tobey made 14 digs apiece for Hubbard (18-2).

SALEM -- Megan Geiger made 48 assists and Jill Mull made 20 kills for the Aviators (12-8).
For the Quakers (14-6), Sarah Brobeck made 21 kills, one tip and one block. Brittany Gregory made 10 kills, seven blocks and one tip while Taylor Toothman made 42 assists.
