SEVENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO: Those were the days, when men were men, pads were thin, helmets were made of leather and the referees wore white. This photo in the October 12, 1930, Rotogravure shows Ray Thomas, veteran referee and also the Mahoning County prosecutor, signaling Lakewood's second touchdown. The goal gave the out-of -town boys a 13-6 victory over South High School's gridders before a large crowd at South's stadium.
