ST. JOHN'S Orthodox icon festival to offer answers



Two speakers will try to provide answers to many 'why' questions.
WARREN -- The 16th annual Festival of Icons is planned Nov. 5 at St. John's Orthodox Church, 2220 Reeves Road.
The program schedule is:

UCoffee and refreshments, icon and bookstore browsing at 9.
U"Do You Ever Wonder Why" with the Rev. John Matusiak at 9:30.
U"Do You Ever Wonder Why" with the Rev. Michael G. Dahulich at 11.
ULunch, icon and bookstore browsing at noon.
U"Do You Ever Wonder Why" with Father Matusiak at 1 p.m.
UDo You Ever Wonder Why" with Father Dahulich at 2 p.m.
URoundtable discussion at 3 p.m.
UGreat vespers at 5 p.m.
The speakers will address answers to such questions as "Why do we fast and celebrate saints and feast days?" "Why does marriage have to be a sacramental mystery?" "Why don't we modernize the Liturgy and other services?" "Why don't we use musical instruments in church?"
About Father Dahulich
Father Dahulich, dean and associate professor of New Testament and ethics at St. Tikhon's Orthodox Theological Seminary, South Canaan, Pa., is studying business at Villanova University. He has other degrees from Christ the Saviour Seminary in Johnstown, Pa., St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa., and Duquesne University, Pittsburgh.
Father Dahulich worked as associate editor of The Church Messenger and compiled and edited the prayer book Come to Me. He also has written for "Alive in Christ" and has a column on "Sobornost" in The Orthodox Herald. He is editor of The Spirit of St. Tikhon's newspaper, St. Tikhon's Theological Journal and the annual Tikhonaire publication.
He is a member of the Orthodox Theological Society and represents the Orthodox Church of America at the advisory council meetings of the American Bible Society.
Father Matusiak
Father Matusiak is director of communications for the OCA, managing editor of The Orthodox Church newspaper and rector of St. Joseph Church, Wheaton, Ill.
He graduated from Iona College, New Rochelle, N.Y., with a bachelor's degree in communications and from St. Vladimir's Seminary with a master of divinity degree. He was ordained in 1975.
Father Matusiak serves as secretary for the Diocese of the Midwest and editor of The Vigil.
What does it cost?

The event also will include a display of books on Orthodox spirituality, history, doctrine, dogma and music.
