SOCCER Willis scores her 92nd goal
Poland's boys team defeated Boardman, 7-1.
STRUTHERS -- Senior Kelli Willis scored the 92nd goal of her career and added an assist Saturday to lead the Mooney High girls soccer team to a 3-1 win over Chagrin Falls.
Freshman Katie Griswold and senior Kelly Burke also scored for the Cardinals (10-2-1), who have won seven in a row.
Mooney was ranked fifth in the Division II state poll this week.
Senior midfielder Marisa Simon assisted on two goals and goalie Natalie Humphries recorded a save.
Megan Takacs scored late in the match for the Tigers (8-5-2).
Howland 4, Kenston 0
HOWLAND -- Allie Airhart scored two goals including one on a penalty kick for the Tigers (12-0-2). Kaylin Hovance assisted.
Megan Long also scored. Kentston was charged with an "own goal" after the team mishandled a corner kick by Erin Gilmour and put the ball into its net for Howland's fourth goal.
Goalkeeper Melissa Airhart made four saves for sixth shutout. 12-0-2. Olivia Morrison and Sandy Schantz combined for four saves for Kenston (5-8-1).
JVs: Howland, 6-0.
Newton Falls 3, Badger 2
KINSMAN -- Casey Piquet scored two goals and Joe Spletzer one for the Tigers (8-6-1). Jenna Cariglio, Piquet and Spletzer each had one assist.
Scoring goals for Badger (7-7) were Cayla Arnold and Shannon Sudon. Hannah Miller had two assists.
Goalkeeper Katy Dvorak made eight saves for the Braves and Jessica Moser eight for the Tigers.
Boys
BOARDMAN -- Seniors Chris Juchno and Steve Gavolas had two goals apiece while sophomore Blake Rhein, senior Dain Malaniak and junior Paul Rogers each had one goal for Poland (12-1-1) in a 7-1 win over Boardman.
Juchno and Gavolas also had an assist apiece for the Bulldogs, who had 12 shots on goal.
Boardman goalie Matt Moore had five saves for the Spartans (7-5-1) while Poland goalie Caleb Markusic saved nine of Boardman's 10 shots.
The Metro Athletic Conference boys championship is up for grabs on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. when Howland visits Poland, which already has one victory over the Tigers this fall.
Ursuline 3, Uniontown Lake 2
YOUNGSTOWN -- Justine Mihaly scored a goal on an assist from Lucas Gonzalez for Ursuline (10-3-1). Corey Mihaly scored two goals.
Patrick Jackson and Mike Valentine scored a goal apiece for Lake (5-7-2).
Ursuline had 15 shots on goal and Lake had 22.
Jared Daly had 17 saves for the Irish. Will Shultz and Ryan Wendel combined for eight saves for Lake.
West Branch 5, Warren JFK 0
BELOIT -- Danny Wallace scored three goals for the Warriors (11-1-2). Nathan Diehl and Clay Criss had one apiece. Joe Starkey had two assists and Tim McCracken one.
Shane Young and Nick Hoopes combined for three saves as West Branch recorded its ninth shutout of the season.
Warren JFK's Matt Kokrak and Ron Nickell combined for 11 saves.
Crestview 7, East Liverpool 2
NEW WATERFORD -- James Frost scored two goals and had three assists for the Rebels (12-1-2).
Greg Bing added two goals while Danny Jones, Cory Lesson and Mitchell See had one apiece.
Aaron Stewart and Leeson each had an assist.
Jimmy Wood and Cody Culp scored a goal apiece for the Potters (5-7-1).
