Pre-concert reception opens season



After the soiree the orchestra will open its 80th season of concerts.
YOUNGSTOWN -- A pre-concert champagne reception and dinner on Oct. 22 will serve as a prelude to the 80th season of concerts by the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra.
Invitations have been issued by the Youngstown Symphony Guild for the pre-concert soiree to be held in the Spanish Room at the DeYor Performing Arts Center, where complimentary champagne will be served at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be at 6:15.
Music for the event will be provided by members of the Youngstown Symphony Youth Orchestra Ensemble and those attending the event will be announced by Christopher Krummel, the orchestra's principal trumpeter.
Season opener
Afterward the orchestra will begin its season of concerts at 8 p.m. with a performance of Rachmaninoff's Third Piano Concerto by guest pianist Olga Kern, the 2001 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition gold medalist.
Isaiah Jackson will direct the orchestra as it presents Brahms Symphony No. 2. The opening performance of the Star Spangled Banner will be under the direction of Clarence R. Smith Jr., the winner of the Youngstown Symphony Guild's "Conduct the Orchestra" auction.
