LaBrae gets overtime win against Hubbard
Champion got its third win in three seasons with a victory over Girard.
LEAVITTSBURG -- Each team scored a touchdown in Friday's overtime, but the LaBrae High football team kicked a conversion point to give the Vikings a 14-13 win over Hubbard in the Trumbull Athletic Conference.
Tied at 7 after regulation, Hubbard scored first in the extra session when Joel Younkins ran for a 20-yard touchdown. The kick failed.
LaBrae (3-4, 1-3) answered with a 4-yard touchdown run by Eric Hart, and Blaine Peterson added his second conversion of the game.
The Eagles (4-3, 2-2) took a 7-0 lead at the half when Marc Kanetsky ran for a 1-yard touchdown and Steve Cinicola kicked the extra point.
In the third quarter, LaBrae tied the game on a 6-yard scoring dash by Dan Hartman.
Cinicola ran 21 times for 147 yards, and Younkins had 11 runs for 65 yards.
Hartman led LaBrae with 24 runs for 134 yards.
Champion 37, Girard 28
CHAMPION -- T.J. Cage caught scoring passes of 5 and 10 yards from Chad Kinkead as the Golden Flashes won for just the third time in three seasons.
Kinkead also scored on a 4-yard run as Champion (2-5, 1-3) jumped out to a 21-0 lead. Kinkead later scored a 25-yard touchdown.
Ron Fularz booted a 47-yard field goal in the third quarter, and Matt Popadak caught a 53-yard pass from Kinkead.
For Girard (3-4, 2-2), Brett Dutton scored on touchdown runs of 14 and 5 yards. Mark Fiest caught an 11-yard touchdown from Dutton, and Brett Cubellis caught a scoring toss of 33 yards.
Popadak rushed for 132 yards on 22 carries. Kinkead completed six of 10 passes for 120 yards.
