Man with cases pending arrested

Nathaniel Dumas faces drug and other charges dating to 2003.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Nathaniel A. Dumas picked the wrong time to stop a van in the middle of Evergreen Avenue to chat with a woman across the street.
An officer on patrol Wednesday noticed that the van had no front license plate and cars were backed up behind it. As the officer approached, the woman left.
Dumas, 29, of Lansdowne Boulevard, told the officer he didn't have his driver's license. He gave his brother's Social Security number until two more officers arrived and recognized him, reports show.
A check revealed that Dumas' license was suspended and he was wanted on a warrant issued in January for failure to appear in Youngstown Municipal Court on a driving-under-suspension charge.
Before the vehicle was towed, police found a prescription bottle that contained Methadose, reports show. Methadose is a synthetic narcotic, according to a drug Web site.
Other counts
Dumas was served with the old warrant and arrested on charges of driving under suspension, possession of drugs, obstructing official business, impeding the flow of traffic and having no front plate.
He was taken to jail Wednesday afternoon but because of overcrowding was released on a court summons. He was arraigned Thursday in municipal court and released on his own recognizance. He will be back in court Oct. 19.
Records show Dumas also has cases pending in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court and Mahoning County Court in Boardman.
In common pleas court, he faces a charge of possession of cocaine that was filed in October 2003. It has been reset several times and now is scheduled for jury trial Nov. 28 before Judge James C. Evans.
On Aug. 18, Dumas was arrested in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Boardman on a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence and a felony charge of drug possession (crack cocaine). Police said he waited in his girlfriend's van and struck her in the face several times when she came out of the store.
A preliminary hearing on the felony and pretrial on the misdemeanor were scheduled for this week.
