Man in assault case plans to stay in La.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Ryan Kidd, 21, formerly of Youngstown, will continue to live with a brother in Louisiana and try to enlist in the Army.
Kidd appeared Thursday in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court before Judge James C. Evans for sentencing on a misdemeanor assault charge.
Evans sentenced Kidd to six months in jail, suspended, a $1,000 fine with $250 suspended and one year of nonreporting probation.
Kidd was arraigned in December 2003 on three counts of rape. He pleaded guilty Aug. 1 to the misdemeanor assault charge.
Details of the crime were not immediately available.
Kidd said in the three years the rape charges were pending he lost opportunities to attend college and receive hockey scholarships. His plan now is to try to join the military and he will not return to Ohio unless ordered to by the court.
Judge Evans told Kidd if he returned to Ohio his probation status would change and he would have to report to probation officers. Judge Evans also told Kidd that if he violated the terms of his probation, no matter where he was living he would be returned and serve six months in the Mahoning County Jail.
