Man, 18, gets 12 years in prison for slaying

YOUNGSTOWN -- An 18-year-old Youngstown man faces 12 years in prison for a shooting that occurred when he was a juvenile.
Judge John M. Durkin of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court sentenced Braeon Stringfield of Parkwood Avenue on Thursday on voluntary manslaughter and gun specification charges. Stringfield faced a murder charge and 15 years to life in prison in the 2003 shooting death of Dominique Lynch. Stringfield was then 16.
Police said Lynch, 22, of Trussit Avenue on the city's North Side, was found lying in her back yard around 8:45 p.m. on April 25, 2003, shot under her right arm. She died at 10 p.m. Stringfield pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter Aug. 8.
He is to serve three years for the gun charge followed by nine years for the voluntary manslaughter charge. Prosecutors said they would oppose any early release.
