DANCES:
Salem: The Salem Memorial Building Association, Salem Senior Citizens and Essex of Salem will co-host their Annual Halloween Bash for adults and seniors from 7-10 p.m. Oct. 26 at 785 E. State St. Door prizes will be awarded for those in costume, and refreshments will be served. The free event is open to the public with live music by The Country Squares.
PUMPKIN CARVINGS:
Boardman: Boardman Park, U.S. Route 224 will have its Great Pumpkin Carve-out Contest Oct. 14 from 1-10 p.m.; Oct. 15-16 from noon to 10 p.m. Bring carving tools and newspapers. There is a small charge for pumpkins. Prizes awarded to all age categories.
Youngstown: Mill Creek MetroParks will have its pumpkin carving workshop from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 21-22. Pumpkin Walk is Oct. 23. Sample toasted pumpkin seeds. Call Fellows Riverside Gardens to register. Fee: $25 residents; $32 nonresidents.
GHOST/WITCH WALKS
Lake Milton: The Haunted Lake Trail begins and ends at the Lake Milton State Park parking lot on Grandview Road near the public beach. Times are 7-11 p.m. Oct. 14-15, 21-22, 28-29. Warren: Ghosts of Trumbull County's past will return to historic downtown Warren this month. Ghost Walk on Oct. 14, 15, 21 and 22 is presented by the Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County, Packard Music Hall Foundation and Trumbull County Historical Society. The walking tour is for people of all ages. It begins at 6:30 p.m. each evening with the last group leaving at 9 p.m. Groups of 15 or more are encouraged to call in advance for group instruction. The number of tickets available is limited and advance sales are encouraged. Presale tickets are $4 for adults; $2 for children under 16. HAUNTED HAYRIDES:
Boardman: Boardman Park, U.S. Route 224, from dusk to 10 p.m. for three weekends starting Oct. 14. Lighted pumpkin display starting Oct. 21, and family-friendly hayrides.
Hartford Haunted Hayrides, begin Oct. 14-15, 21-22, 28-29, from 7:30-10:30 p.m. at Storeyland Christmas Tree Farm, Burghill, on state Route 7. $5 per person. GENERAL ENTERTAINMENT
Youngstown: Halloween at the Judge Leo P. Morley Pavilion, Wick Recreation Area, Mill Creek MetroParks, from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 15. A mummy-wrap competition for families begins the fun, followed by pie-eating contest for adults. The magic of John Steven Bloom will entertain the audience at 6:30 p.m. Children of all ages can enter the popular costume competition on the Morley stage at 7 p.m. Pet owners with their dressed pets will compete in a special event. Jocko the Clown will greet all upon arrival.
Canfield: "Ghost Lights of Halloween" Yellow Duck Park, state Route 46 between Canfield and Columbiana. Runs Sept. 29-Oct. 31 at 7:15 p.m. Thursdays-Sundays. This is a drive-through show of witches, monsters and ghouls, oh my! If children become too scared, drivers can turn on their car flashers to keep the monsters and ghouls from getting too close to the car. Be sure to take your camera. Admission is $5 per person or $20 a carload up to seven people, with children under 5 years old free. An optional caged Haunted Hayride (on good weather nights) is $7.50 per person with kids under 5 free, sitting with a parent. "Driver free" admission passes, with two or more paying passengers, are available at Burger King and Dairy Queen restaurants and other sponsor locations. Ashtabula: Halloween Kids Day will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct 14 at Ashtabula Arts Center, 2928 W. 13th St. The center is ready to whisk kids off to Harry Potter's favorite Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for a day of crafty fun. J.K. Rowling's fantasy school will be the setting and inspiration for the annual holiday event. Pupils will get sorted into their houses: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw. Once sorted, they will receive a class schedule and will attend Potions class, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Divination, Care of Magical Creatures and Transfiguration. They will even learn a magic trick and a spell or two! Kids will make fake blood, slime and all kinds of creepy decorations and will concoct a disgusting-looking edible treat. Cost is $30 per child.
