GIRARD -- The Mooney High boys and girls cross country teams ran to Steel Valley Conference championships Tuesday at the Mahoning Country Club. Colin Durina (17:05) and Sean Finnerty (17:40) ran one-two in leading the Cardinals to the boys title with 26 points. Lauren Finnerty (20:58) took first place as Mooney won the girls crown with 21 points. Tiffani Miller of Ursuline (21:45) placed second.
TAC CC championships
CHAMPION -- Evan DeChant (17:37) won the 5000-meter boys run for Girard, which captured the Trumbull Athletic Conference title with 28 points. The Indians had four athletes finish in the top 10. Nicole Taddei (21:22) took the girls run in leading Lakeview to the crown with 21 points. The Bulldogs had four in the top six spots.
Tennis
BOARDMAN -- April Scudere of Brookfield, Mariah Mastadi of Ravenna and Alyssa Tom of Poland have advanced to the Division II sectional semifinal tennis matches Saturday at Boardman High School. The three girls earned those berths after winning quarterfinal matches Tuesday at Boardman High.
Scudere defeated Angie Prato of Cardinal Mooney, 6-4, 6-1; Mariah Mastardi of Ravenna defeated Samantha Stanich of Poland, 6-4, 6-1; and Alyssa Tom of Poland defeated Brianne Thomas of Mooney, 6-3, 6-2.
