Rehab center honors foundation for its gift
HOWLAND -- Home Savings Charitable Foundation will be honored today for its contributions to the Children's Rehabilitation Center's building project.
The foundation, comprised of Home Savings and Butler-Wick & amp; Co. Inc., contributed nearly $300,000 to the center's $1.8 million improvement project.
Since 1957, the nonprofit center at 885 Howland-Wilson Road has been providing therapeutic, educational and support services to medically fragile and disabled children in the Mahoning Valley.
Dominic Mancini, center business manager, said the $1.8 million was raised during a 2002 capital improvement campaign that allowed the center to double in size to its current 27,600 square feet.
The east wing contains a library, meeting rooms and office space, while physical, occupational, speech and infant therapies are conducted in the Home Savings Pediatric Rehabilitation Hall.
More than 250 individuals, civic organizations, corporations and foundations contributed to the project.
The center's goal is to help each child attain a high level of self esteem and achieve optimum functioning and independence. It is a United Way and Trumbull Lifeline agency.
