Official wants county to help learning center
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- One Lawrence County commissioner wants to give some of the Hill View Manor sale proceeds to help the Lawrence County Learning Center.
Commissioner Dan Vogler proposed Tuesday that the county give money generated from the sale of the contents of the former county nursing home to the Learning Center. Vogler said the county made about $28,000 from the contents, but expects some costs such as the auctioneers fee will be taken from that amount. He said the rest could help keep the center afloat for another year.
The center offers college courses at low cost and allows the pupils to transfer credits to more than 80 colleges and universities.
Center director Arthur Zarone had asked New Castle council for $17,000, but was offered only $7,000 from council.
Vogler said he expects the board of commissioners to discuss the matter at Thursday's caucus meeting.
