OCCHA plans to mark 33rd year with celebration at Mr. Anthony's
BOARDMAN -- Organizacion Civica y Cultural Hispana Americana, the city's primary social service agency geared toward meeting the needs of the Mahoning Valley's Latino population, will celebrate its 33rd anniversary from 5:30 p.m. to midnight Oct. 21 at a dinner fund-raiser at Mr. Anthony's Banquet Center, 7440 South Ave.
There will be a social hour, dinner and awards ceremony. Tickets cost $35 per person and the deadline for purchase is Friday. The theme for this year's event is "Caribbean Nights."
This year's scholarship recipients are: OCCHA Academic Achievement Scholarship, Susan Lofaro; Hispanic Teacher's Scholarship, Ericka Torres; Becerra Family Scholarship, Julian Caraballo; and OCCHA's Romero Memorial Scholarship, Jeremy Aponte, Tamika Vazquez and Shawntaya Figueroa.
The master of ceremonies is Christopher Thomas.
Members of this year's dinner committee are chairwoman, Aida Pacheco; co-chairman, Elba Navarro; committee members, Antonia Caraballo, Candida Godoy, Nellie Gonzalez, Virginia Hernandez, Mary Ann Navarro, Nancy Pagan, Judy Richards, William Robertson, Carmen Santiago, Rosa Tirado, Frank Wilson and Benito Velazquez.
Entertainment will be provided by Grupo Fuego and DJ "Chico." Chinese and silent auctions will be held.
