Man tries to lure boy, 15
GIRARD -- Police are looking for a man they say tried to entice a 15-year-old city boy into his car Friday. Police reports show the boy was walking on Church Hill Road when a man driving an orange and red sports car stopped and asked if he wanted a ride. The man told the boy he had just arrived in town from Florida. Police reports say the boy refused and the man turned around in a nearby parking lot and drove away. Reports say the man is in his late 20s with long brown hair and a goatee.
Break-in try at mayor's
YOUNGSTOWN -- Someone used a club or hammer to try to force open the front door at Mayor George M. McKelvey's house on Tod Lane around 9 p.m. Sunday, police said. McKelvey told police that he was cleaning the garage when he heard three loud bangs and thought it was his wife tenderizing meat in the kitchen. Several minutes later his son noticed that someone had tried to kick in the front door. Police found the solid wood entry door cracked at the dead bolt.
Shooting victim stable
WARREN -- A man shot in the chest here Saturday morning was in stable condition in St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown Monday afternoon. Kenneth Robinson, 26, of Hoyt Street Southwest, told police he was shot by a man he knew around 3 a.m. as he arrived at a party on Douglas Street Northeast. The small-caliber bullet entered the left front side of Robinson's chest and exited through the back, police said. Robinson was taken by a friend to Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital, then was transferred to St. Elizabeth's because of the severity of his injury.
Crash witness needed
YOUNGSTOWN -- Anyone who may have witnessed a two-car crash around 7 p.m. Sept. 27 at the intersection of Mahoning and Schenley avenues is asked to call Detective Sgt. Patricia Garcar at (330) 742-8289. Garcar said the crash involved a gold Geo Prizm and silver Pontiac Grand Am. The case is being investigated as a felonious assault, she said.
School board meeting
AUSTINTOWN -- The Austintown Board of Education will have a special meeting at 7:30 a.m. Thursday at the board offices, 225 Idaho Road. A previous announcement said the meeting would be today. The board will vote on the contract with unionized nonteaching employees represented by the Ohio Association of Public School Employees.
Angels for the elderly
WARREN -- Guardian Angels of Ohio, a program that reaches out to lonely elderly people, will join with Trumbull County Probate Judge Thomas A. Swift for a meeting at 6 p.m. today at Waterstone Place Apartments, 1380 Arbor Ave. N.E. The agency's Volunteer Guardianship program reaches out in friendship to people by providing trained, committed volunteers to serve as court visitors, advocates and legal guardians. NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Dr. Kang-Yup Na, assistant professor of religion at Westminster College, will present "In a Mirror, Dimly: The Historicality and Metaphoricality of (the Apostle) Paul" at the Henderson Lecture at a free public session at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Witherspoon Maple Room in McKelvey Campus Center.
Kleber Avenue fire
AUSTINTOWN -- An electrical fire damaged the attic of a home at 165 Kleber Ave. There were no injuries. The blaze was reported at 5:22 p.m. Saturday, township firefighters said.
