Man dies in fire on East Liverpool's East End
EAST LIVERPOOL -- A man died, apparently of smoke inhalation in a fire at a house at 1099 Monaca St. on the city's East End, said Fire Chief Jerry Barcus.
The death appeared to be accidental but an investigation is continuing, Barcus said.
The man wasn't the home's renter, said fire Lt. Thomas Walker.
The man's name wasn't released late Monday because his next of kin hadn't been notified, Walker said. The man is believed to have been in his late 20s or early 30s and a Michigan resident, Walker said.
He apparently was a visitor staying at the rental property when the renter was away, the chief said. The victim was the only person in the house at the time of the fire, Walker said.
The fire was reported at 7:20 a.m. Monday. It started on the first floor and moved rapidly to the second floor and attic, Walker said.
