Boardman boys golf team earns tourney spot
WARREN -- The Boardman High boys golf team shot a 326 to finish fourth at Monday's Division I sectional tournament at Trumbull Country Club, earning the final qualifying spot for next week's district tournament at Pine Hills Golf Course in Hinckley.
Fitch senior Mike Johnson, who shot a 78 on the par 70 course, and Canfield freshman Nick Hardy, who shot a 79, earned two of the four individual qualifying spots.
Boardman's team members are seniors Tim Marrow (76) and Nick Sainato (85) and sophomores Mike Lower (80), John Watkins (85) and Joe Strawinski (86).
Canfield finished fifth, one stroke back of Boardman.
Walsh Jesuit finished first with a score of 298, followed by Hudson (302) and Stow-Munroe Falls (320). Ravenna senior Mike Petranic (77) and Kent Roosevelt sophomore Bobby Keener (78) were the other individual qualifiers. Walsh Jesuit sophomore Pat Spittler shot a 67 to earn medalist honors.
