4-month-old boy dies after house fire

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A 4-month-old boy died after a fire at his Morton Street house.
Assistant Fire Chief Nunzie Bonfield said the fire was reported at 12:53 p.m. Monday. When firefighters arrived, Amy Prioletti and her 4-year-old son, name not available, were outside, Bonfield said.
Prioletti was climbing out of a second-story window of the burning home with her 4-year-old son under one arm and Evan, her 4-month-old son, under the other, Bonfield said. She was trying to get the children to a shed roof about five or six feet below her, but fell, he said. When that happened, Evan fell into the house and Prioletti and her other son fell 14 feet to the ground, he said.
The 4-year-old wasn't injured, but Prioletti hurt her back.
Firefighters tried to get into the house through the front door but couldn't because of the fire. They got Evan out through a second-floor window, Bonfield said. The boy was taken to Jameson Memorial Hospital, where he died.
The cause of the fire is undetermined, but not considered suspicious, Bonfield said.
