SHARON, Pa. -- The Vocal Group Hall of Fame has extended the deadline until Oct. 31 for public voting on its 2005 inductees.
To vote, go to the hall's Web site, www.vghf.org, and download the ballot.
Chorus seeks singersfor 'Messiah' event
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- New Castle Music Club Chorus invites Youngstown area singers to join it in presenting its 65th annual performance of George F. Handel's sacred oratorio, "Messiah."
Rehearsals are on Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m. in First Presbyterian Church, located at the corner of Jefferson and Falls streets. A lighted lot is available for parking. The first rehearsal will be from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Monday, followed by refreshments.
The presentation will be held at 3 p.m. Nov. 27 in St. James the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, six miles West of New Castle on U.S. Route 422, New Bedford, under the direction of Harry Cunningham. Accompanists will be organist Kris Harper and pianist Karen Toth. Youngstown resident John Clark will perform the bass solos and Matther Buehler of Austintown will provide trumpet accompaniment.
Participants in high school, college, church and community choral groups, along with any other area residents who enjoy singing are wanted to add their voices to the chorus. Past participants should bring their copy of the music to rehearsal. Those singing for the first time may purchase copies there for $7.25.

Youth acting classesat the Playhouse
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown Playhouse Youth Theatre will hold an autumn session of theater classes for students in grades 1-12 on Saturdays from Oct. 15 through Nov. 19 at the Playhouse. The class fee is $60 per student.
Youngsters in grades 1 through 3 may enroll in "Imagination Station," which will have students "packing" their creativity and traveling the world to experience various types of folk tales. Class time is 10 to 11 a.m.
"Tell Me Why Tales," held from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. will have students exploring stories such as "How the Elephant Got His Trunk," that attempts to explain why things are and how they came to be. The class will create and perform a story of its own. Both classes will be taught by Monica Beasley Martin.
Middle school age pupils in grades 4 through 6, will create a mystery story in "It was a Dark and Stormy Night," from 10 to 11 a.m., which teaches the basics of acting through theater games. The class will then improvise and rehearse their play for presentation.
"From the Page to the Stage," from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. will give budding playwrights an opportunity to develop and write a script, using classic stage script form. A staged reading of the play will be shared with an audience. Patricia Fagan is the instructor for both courses.
Molly Galano conducts two classes for students in grades 7 through 12. "Acting 101," from 10 to 11 a.m., offers the beginning student the fundamentals of vocal technique, movement, character and improvisation.
"So, You Want to be an Actor," from 11: 15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., will take the class through in depth character work, scene study and preparing for an audition.

Bluegrass concertwith Blue Wolf Band
MIDDLEFIELD -- The Blue Wolf Band will present a bluegrass music concert at 7 p.m. Oct. 20 at Middlefield Library, 16167 E. High St.
The band plays a mix of old-time and new acoustic music, as well as contemporary songs done in a bluegrass style with three-part harmonies.
Robert Paris, a Niles native, is the band's lead vocalist and guitarist. The other three band members are from Flatwoods, W.Va.
