Union Township supervisors are expected to adopt a new property maintenance code this month. Among the provisions of the code are requirements that:
Vacant buildings and land be safely maintained.Gates, garages, pools, fences and walls be safely maintained.Abandoned or junked vehicles not be stored in exterior property areas.Appliances, equipment and construction materials be maintained free from hazardous conditions.Exterior stairways, decks, porches and balconies be maintained in safe condition.Trash be removed regularly and not accumulate outside or inside.Demolished structures be removed in 30 days.Every dwelling have a leak-proof, covered garbage container.Rodents be exterminated.All structures must be maintained in good repair and in sanitary condition, inside and out.Handrails and guards be in good condition.Lead-based paint in dwellings and day care facilities be maintained in a condition to prevent peeling or flaking.Weeds must be removed and sidewalks and driveways be kept in a proper state of repair.
