Students to compete in 8th Raider Regatta
NORTH LIMA -- Watercraft made only of cardboard and duct tape will take to the high seas of Memorial Park Lake behind South Range High School, 11836 South Ave., at 12:30 p.m. Monday in the eighth annual Raider Regatta.
Students working in groups will build boats and try to float them across the lake. Each boat will have a different theme and must carry at least two people.
It's not all fun and games, though. The students are using math, science, art and English skills to build their crafts and are learning to cooperate with others as well as doing some hands-on learning and development of leadership skills.
They are competing for a variety of awards, including the best unintentional sink, best design, best costume, best theme and best of show.
