Share personal stories of your pets' love
Dear Heloise: Thank you for having me on your Ask Heloise radio program recently to discuss my book "Unlocking the Animal Mind." We talked about a pet's emotions and feelings, which play an immensely important role in every aspect of that animal's life. I wanted to let you know about my next book project, exploring the specific emotion of love in animals. Based on the array of stories told to me by my clients, I know that animal love shows itself in ways that can be fascinating, surprising, amusing and profoundly moving.
I'd be most interested in collecting additional stories about love in all kinds of animals -- from dogs and cats to rabbits, horses, iguanas, birds and hamsters -- for inclusion in my book. I wonder if you might be able to ask your readers to share their personal stories about the love they have seen in their pets.
Thank you for your kindness and love for animals. Franklin D. McMillan, DVM, via fax
Having been lucky enough to have shared my life with many wonderful pets (each with its own special personality), I have felt that love, too. I would like to hear from my readers about their fascinating stories of pet bonding. Our Cabbie, a miniature schnauzer, has been known to bring the morning paper through the dog door and all the way down the hall, then drop it on the bed when I'm not feeling well! I did not train her to do this. That's love.
So, take a minute to share your favorite pet "love" story by sending your letter to: Heloise/Pet Story, P.O. Box 795000, San Antonio, TX 78279, or by e-mailing Dr. McMillan at Fmcmillan2005@aol.com. Who knows, your letter might appear in an upcoming column, or maybe in Dr. McMillan's next book. Heloise
P.S. Many of you listened to my radio show for several years. It was a lot of fun talking with you and interviewing experts in almost every field, from pets to home security, child safety, food, travel, medicine and much more. I learned a new hint with every show! I'm taking a break for a short while, but will be behind the mike soon again and taking your calls. Visit my Web site, www.Heloise.com, for more information.

Dear Heloise: Recently, we changed out the king-size pillows on our bed for new ones. I took one of the old pillows, put an old pillowcase over it, covered it with a towel and placed it in the corner of the garage for a "kitty-kat" bed. It is soft and light, and our cat loves it! F.C., via e-mail
