Michael Perry honored
Michael Perry, son of Brian and Michele Perry of Boardman and a member of Boy Scout Troop 46, has received Scouting's highest honor, the Eagle Scout award. His court of Honor was at Boardman United Methodist Church, which is the troop sponsor.
Michael joined the troop in 1999, earning 31 merit badges under the guidance of Scoutmaster Eric Grabman.
His Eagle Scout project involved the design and creation of a sitting area at the Ursuline Motherhouse, Canfield. He is a senior at Cardinal Mooney High School, where he is an honor student and a member of the speech and track teams.
Michael was a 2005 delegate to Buckeye Boys State and is a member of St. Charles parish, where he serves as lector of the word.
HONORS
Irene Houk recognized
The Springfield Local Alumni Association paid special recognition last week to Dr. Irene Houk, the first woman elected to the school board in the Springfield school district, at the group's annual reunion.
Houk served 20 years on the school board. Her son, George, served on the board in later years, making them the only parent-child board members in the district's history. Houk also was the first woman dentist to work in Springfield Township.
Alumni officers for 2005 year are Nancy Allen Crouse, president; Natalie Mollenkopf Cowen; vice president and Zonda Haase, secretary-treasurer and historian.
