Ensign gets commission
Navy Ensign Jonathan P. Pagnucco, a 1998 graduate of West Branch High School, Beloit, received his commission as a naval officer after completing the 13-week Officer Candidate School at Officer Training Command, Pensacola, Fla.
HONORS
Elite Honor Guard
Air Force Airman 1st Class Deanna L. Stowe has completed a four-month tour as a member of the McGuire Air Force Base, N.J., Elite Honor Guard.
Stowe, an engineering apprentice assigned to the 305th Civil Engineer Squadron at McGuire Air Force Base, is the daughter of Ronald L. Stowe of Beloit and Julie A. Policastro of Trappe, Pa. She is a 2002 graduate of Vernon Township, N.J., High School.
Outstanding volunteer
Air Force Reserve Staff Sgt. David A. Oesch has been awarded the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal for performing a volunteer community service of a sustained, direct and consequential nature.
Oesch, a medical services technician with 15 years of military service, is assigned to the 910th Airlift Wing, Youngstown-Warren Air Reserve Station, Vienna.
He is the son of Randall and Donna Oesch of New Springfield and is a 1985 graduate of Columbiana High School.
DEPLOYED
Mansfield on duty
Navy Seaman Ralph T. Mansfield, son of Ralph T. Mansfield III of Poland, is deployed in support of the war on terrorism. He is assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron 87 aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt.
Booth supports war
Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Quincy L. Booth, son of Cordelia L. Smith and Gary Booth Sr., both of Youngstown, has been deployed in support of the war on terrorism as a member of the Aviation Intermediate Maintenance Department aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt.
ADVANCED TRAINING
Noncommissioned officer
Air Force Tech. Sgt. Eric D. Rankin graduated from the Noncommissioned Officer Academy at Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla. Rankin is an instructor assigned to the 334th Training Squadron, Hurlburt Field, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
Rankin, a 1990 graduate of Crestview High School in Columbiana, is the son of David B. and Sharon J. Rankin of New Waterford.
His wife, Shannon, is the daughter of Dennis and Diane Hetric of New Waterford.
Barkett is instructor
Marine Corps Reserve Cpl. Brent Barkett was certified as a combat instructor of water survival after three weeks of training at the Naval Expeditionary Warfare Training Group, San Diego.
Barkett, assigned to the 4th Landing Support Equipment Co. at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station in Vienna, is scheduled to teach water survival and rescue to troops in Puerto Rico in October.
Barkett, the son of John and Georgia Barkett of Boardman, is a 2005 graduate of the University of Toledo and a 2000 graduate of Boardman High School.
