Police investigate toddler's injuries
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 21/2-year-old East Judson Avenue boy examined for a head injury at Forum Health Northside Medical Center may be the victim of abuse, police said.
The child had a broken clavicle, rib fracture, possible ankle fracture and subdural hematoma (bleeding of the brain), reports show.
The exam Thursday evening also revealed multiple older bruises to the face and chest.
The mother said when she returned from a mandatory parenting class, an ambulance was at the house.
The boy and three siblings had been left in the care of the boy's father, police said. Police were told that the boy was hit in the head with a toy truck by a 1-year-old sibling, but hospital staff said a 1-year-old child could not have inflicted the injuries.
The case has been assigned to the police department's juvenile division.
