Nominations being accepted for Red Cross Heroes Awards



BOARDMAN -- The Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold its second annual Heroes of Mahoning Valley recognition breakfast Jan. 14 at Antone's Banquet Centre.
The event will honor area residents who have performed an extraordinary act of courage, donated countless hours to the betterment of the community, or who have shown kindness and unselfish character through their actions.
Residents of the Mahoning Valley may submit names of those deserving of recognition to the chapter until Nov. 4.
Hero nomination categories are:
UFirefighter
ULaw enforcement
UMedical
UGood neighbor (over 21)
UYouth Samaritan (under 21)
UAnimal (either human caregiver of animal hero)
UWorkplace safety
UEducator
UCommunity impact (involvement in a project that impacts the community)
The heroic act must have been performed between Sept. 1, 2004 and Sept. 1, 2005, in Mahoning County, Hubbard, Liberty or Girard.
Nomination forms are available at the chapter's Web site, mahoning.redcross.org, or by calling (330)726-6063. Nominees will be required to follow rules and guidelines set up by the organization in order to qualify for recognition, and must attend the breakfast to accept the award.
