JOHN BASSETTI | Bowling Richardson, Barb will enter 'Hall'



The 38th annual achievement awards dinner and the Youngstown Women's Bowling Association's 29th annual Hall of Fame Induction is this evening at the ITAM Centre.
Eleanor Richardson and Ursuline Barb will be on the receiving end of the hall of fame ceremony, scheduled to start with a social hour at 5 p.m. at the Meridian Road banquet facility. The dinner begins at 6.
Betty Kana is slated for recognition as the 2004-2005 season's secretary of the year.
The YWBA has been honoring its members formally with awards since 1967.
Eleanor Richardson
Has been a YWBA member for 38 years, during which time her highest average was 189, highest three-game series 686 and highest single of 289. Richardson bowled in over 25 city tournaments and, in 1976, was a member of the winning actual team with 2,730 pin-fall. In 1979, she won all-events with 1,645 and, in 1984, teamed with Betty Wynn to win actual doubles with 1,141.
Eleanor was also champion in three categories in New Castle city tournaments. She's been secretary of the Penn-Ohio Travelers for 28 years.
In 2003, Richardson was secretary of the year as the National Traveling League secretary. She won the National Traveling League's national tournament as well as its eastern division several times.
Ursuline Barb
Also a 38-year member of the association during which time she attained her highest average of 180, highest three-game set of 685 and highest game of 289.
Barb bowled in 33 YWBA city tournaments, winning both gold and bronze medals at the annual achievement awards dinner.
In 1986, Ursuline won the 23rd Youngstown Mixed Doubles Tournament with partner Bill Bucci with 1,407 pin-fall.
She was crowned queen of Boardman Lanes in 1963 and 1964 and bowled in several Ohio Women's Association tournaments and several U.S. Open qualifier elimination events.
Barb was also an All-Star Traveling League member.
Dunn has 856
Eric Dunn fired 278-300-278 for 856 in Max Belchyk/Dr. Ferkula Classic at Holiday on Sept. 15. Playing second fiddle that night were Steve Harper Jr.'s 802 and Nick Gesacion's first-ever 300.
Joe Nuzzo also rolled beyond 700 with 803 in Shooting Gallery at Holiday on Sept. 21. Nuzzo's top game was 300.
Jim Tancabel had his first 300 on Sept. 14, coming in Holiday's Wednesday Men's League. Nick Scutillo Sr. had his first-ever 300 in Doughton Businessmen at Bell-Wick on Sept. 21.
Hazel Price's 287 paced men and women in Monday Senior Mixed at Camelot on Sept. 19.
Other top sets so far were Matt Roscoe's 803 in Spiech Classic at Bell-Wick on Sept. 12 and Rich Scherich's 300-813 in Eight-Ball Men at Holiday, also on Sept. 12.
On Aug. 27, Parker (Holiday) and Spiech Classic (Bell-Wick) secretary Mike Esposito had 300 in Parker.
