Fitch teacher pleads innocent to sex with female student, 17
AUSTINTOWN -- An Austintown Fitch High School teacher who was indicted Thursday on six felony counts of sexual battery involving a Fitch student pleaded innocent at his arraignment Friday.
Gerald C. Reedy, 56, who has been placed on paid leave by the school district pending the outcome of his criminal case, appeared in Mahoning County Common Pleas court before Magistrate Timothy Welsh.
After his plea, he was released on his own recognizance. His pretrial hearing is set for Tuesday at 1:30 p.m., and his trial is set for Nov. 30 at 1:30 p.m. in Judge Maureen Sweeney's court.
Reedy was indicted by a Mahoning County grand jury. The indictment alleges a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female student that began in February and continued through August.
He is a high school science teacher and last year was an assistant girls track coach. He has been with the district 33 years, district officials said. He lives in Poland.
