COAST GUARD Warren woman charged with military desertion
Police found the woman by tracing her cell-phone call.
AUSTINTOWN -- Township police and federal agents arrested a woman charged with military desertion this week, and her boyfriend was charged with obstructing justice, according to a police report.
Stacy Lynn Derov, 28, whose birthplace is listed as Warren in documents on file with police, was arrested Monday at a motel in North Jackson and taken to the Mahoning County jail.
She was picked up by federal agents Wednesday and taken to a Naval jail in Norfolk, Va., according to police reports.
The search
She was being sought by the U.S. Coast Guard Investigative Services on a charge of deserting the USCGC Gallatin in Charleston, S.C., on Aug. 3, says a document on file with police. She was a fireman apprentice.
Her boyfriend, Gregory C. Senediak, 30, 5631 Radcliffe Ave., was arraigned Thursday in County Court in Austintown on the obstruction charge. His pretrial is set for Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. He is free on $2,500 bond.
Investigators had traced Derov to Senediak's house. Police reports say that on several occasions, an Austintown detective went to Senediak's house with a warrant for Derov's arrest.
Senediak gave false information about Derov's whereabouts, the police report said. He refused to cooperate with police, telling Detective Sgt. Frank Tomasino he would protect her to the end, the report said.
On Monday, Senediak was arrested, and while police were taking him to the Mahoning County jail, Derov called his cell phone, police said. Police were able to find her by tracing the call to the May Motel in North Jackson.
Tomasino said Derov had changed her appearance with hair dye and hair extensions. She was working at a nightclub on state Route 45 in Trumbull County, he said.
