City schools connect with the community
YOUNGSTOWN -- There will be a lot of activity around all of the Youngstown city schools this morning, but it won't be pupils attending classes.
Today is the third annual Community Walk/Rally for the school district. It's an attempt to focus on the new school year and the expectations it brings. The Community Walk was instituted by Dr. Wendy Webb, superintendent, three years ago, before she became superintendent.
School buses will be rolling around their assigned buildings at 9:30 a.m. as administrators, teachers, the Urban Congress, and members of the Increase the Peace Committee and area churches are walking door-to-door around their neighborhood schools to greet residents and talk about the district's priorities this year.
"We are simply letting our neighbors know that we are part of the community and that we care about what they care about -- the success and safety of each and every student in the Youngstown City School District," Webb said.
The walk will end at noon with a one-hour rally on Federal Plaza, and the public is invited to attend that event.
