Campbell triumphs over Kiski; Carrollton topples West Branch
Although Justin Penson rushed for 136 yards, Struthers fell.
CAMPBELL -- Campbell Memorial High returned two blocked kicks for touchdowns in the third quarter and rolled over Kiski (Pa.) School 40-14 Friday.
Lonnie McQueen rushed eight times for 139 yards including a 39-yard touchdown that gave the Red Devils (2-4) a 20-7 lead.
Antwan Dawson and Mattias Crosby then returned blocked kicks for scores of 10 and 16 yards, respectively, as Campbell opened a 34-7 margin.
Dominque Lucky rushed 18 times for 109 yards and a 8-yard score that gave Campbell a 14-7 lead at the break.
Kiski is 1-3.
Youngstown Christian 21, Lutheran East 14
MINERAL RIDGE -- Eddie Gonda caught a 6-yard pass from quarterback Aaron Agresta; then Gonda lateraled the ball to Aaron Tate who raced 31 yards for a touchdown with 15 seconds remaining in the game.
The score completed a 53-yard, six play drive for the Eagles (4-2, 2-1 East Suburban League).
The winning score was a third-and-15 situation following a sack that put the Eagles on the East 36.
Tate also caught a 15-yard TD strike from Agresta in the second quarter.
The Falcons (2-4, 1-2) had tied the score with less then three minutes remaining in the final quarter as Koree Doyle scored on a 9-yard run to tie the contest at 14-14.
Doyle put the Falcons ahead 8-7 in the first quarter when he tallied on a 31-yard run and then ran for a two-point conversion.
Villa Angela-St. Joseph 24,Struthers 22
STRUTHERS -- Justin Penson rushed for 136 yards and two touchdowns, but Villa Angela-St. Joseph held off Struthers here Friday.
Penson's second touchdown in the third quarter gave the Wildcats a 16-16 deadlock, but Greg Ashdown threw a 79 yard touchdown pass to Lorenzo Brazzelli and added the two-point conversion to take a 24-16 lead.
Struthers (1-5) tallied on a 65 yard pass from Mike Duponty to Larry Wilie but missed the two-point conversion.
The Vikings were aided by an 82-yard interception return for a touchdown by Reggie Williams in the second quarter.
Carrollton 26West Branch 21
BELOIT -- Matt Bryan's 15-yard scoring pass to Corey Leggett with 5:02 remaining in the game carried Carrollton past West Branch in a Northeastern Buckeye Conference game.
West Branch (3-3, 1-2 NBC) had taken a 21-20 lead with 3:27 remaining in the third quarter on a 5-yard run by Eric Balputnis, who rushed 24 times for 145 yards and two scores.
West Branch also scored on a 21-yard pass from Steve McNeely to Patrick Stecker.
Leggett caught five passes for 83 yards, and Matt Spears had six receptions for 89 yards for Carrollton (4-2). Bryan was 18-for-35 for 260 yards.
Southeast 34,Kent Roosevelt 21
KENT -- Joe Knopick threw for 249 yards and four touchdowns, leading Southeast to its fifth win in six tries.
Knopick connected with Herndon twice, covering 62 and 52 yards, and also hooked up with Butler and Locher with 6-yard scoring passes. Knopick finished the game 14-of-21 through the air.
Knopick also added 127 yards on 26 carries to pace the Pirates. Herndon had five catches for 165 yards.
