Boardman's losing streak is finally over
Fitch lost, Rayen improved to 4-2 and Woodrow Wilson was beaten.
UNIONTOWN -- Quarterback Joe Bako rushed for 100 yards in 16 attempts and three touchdowns of 36, 5 and 4 yards, to lead Boardman High to its first win of the season, a 28-14 defeat of Uniontown Lake in a Federal League game Friday night.
The Spartans shattered a 19-game losing streak extending back to the 2003 season, and posted their first victory in the Federal League since joining the circuit three years ago.
Frank Ocasio also scored for Boardman (1-5, 1-2 Federal League) on a 52-yard run and finished with 68 yards rushing in five carries.
Boardman took a 21-0 halftime lead behind Bako's two TDs of 36 and 5 yards and Ocasio's 52-yard scamper.
Tyme Hammond also led the Spartans with 94 yards rushing in 27 attempts, while Eric Johnson kicked four extra points.
T.J. Viscuso fired a 6-yard TD pass to Steve Eggart while Brent MacLean raced 19 yards to a score for Lake (1-5, 0-4).
MacLean rushed for 103 yards in nine carries while Viscuso passed for 93 yards on 7-for-14, and Nick Alison kicked two extra points.
Massillon Jackson 24, Fitch 7
MASSILLON -- Brett Stefan caught touchdown passes of 60 and 7 yards to help the Polar Bears open a 21-0 lead by the half.
Dane Stilgenbauer, who ran 13 times for 83 yards, scored from 2 yards out for the Falcons (2-4, 1-2 Federal League).
Jon Oberhauser, who kicked three conversion points in the first half for Jackson (5-1, 3-0), added a 27-yard field goal to round out the scoring.
Rayen 26,East Liverpool 12
EAST LIVERPOOL -- Sal Battles threw for three touchdowns and ran for another as the Tigers (4-2) won their fourth straight game.
After Battles found Troy Rice for touchdown aerials of 39 and 12 yards, he hit Tomaz Hilton for a 25-yard scoring heave that gave the Tigers a 20-7 lead entering the fourth quarter.
Battles completed 5-of-13 passes for 94 yards and he ran 12 times for 55 yards including a 32-yard touchdown.
Gary Thornton ran 17 times for 76 yards for the Tigers.
The Potters are 1-5.
Indian Creek 36,Wilson 19
WINTERSVILLE -- Rashad Robinson returned a fumble 90 yards and ran 58 yards for another score, but Wilson (1-5) was out-gained on the ground, 323-to-100.
Senior running back Antwan Davenport also tallied for the Redmen.
Davenport had four carries for 11 yards, while Robinson, a junior fullback and linebacker, finished with two carries for 64 yards.
Senior quarterback Gary Scott was 6-of-19 for 40 yards, but had three passes intercepted.
Wilson junior Aaron Bankston picked off a pass by Indian Creek's Tim Ohalek and returned it 15 yards.
Indian Creek (3-3) had 45 running plays to Wilson's 23.
Ohalek completed 4-of-9 passes for 49 yards, including a 17-yard touchdown toss to Cylde Jordan.
Sean West was Indian Creek's top rusher with 125 yards on 14 carries and one TD. Rocco Auteri added 118 yards on 24 tries.
