Woman convicted in man's '01 killing

AKRON (AP) -- A prominent restaurant owner's wife was convicted Monday of aiding in the drive-by shooting death of a former lover by the third member of a love triangle.
Summit County Common Pleas Judge Patricia Cosgrove issued the verdict in the nonjury trial of Cynthia George, 51.
The judge sentenced her to a three-year term on a gun specification and a life term with parole eligibility after 20 years on her conviction for complicity in the slaying.
George is the wife of Ed George, owner of the Tangier, a Middle Eastern-theme restaurant and popular Akron gathering spot.
Asked whether she wanted to make a statement, George told the judge she did not commit the crime. George's bond was revoked and she was led from court in handcuffs.
John Zaffino, 39, is serving a life sentence in the 2001 slaying of Jeff Zack, 44, a Stow businessman who was shot at a gasoline pump by a motorcyclist.
Prosecutors said bank records show that Cynthia George may have provided the money used to buy the motorcycle used in the slaying. Cell phone records indicated she and Zaffino spoke at key points, including before and after Zack's murder, prosecutors said.
George was acquitted of conspiracy in a failed attempt to lure Zack to his death three weeks earlier in a park where Zaffino was waiting in bushes with a gun later recovered by a ranger.
