Struthers receives grant for pollution education

STRUTHERS -- The city has been awarded a $45,503 state grant to develop a storm-water education program aimed at reducing pollution in the Mahoning River and Yellow Creek watersheds.
Struthers is one of eight communities or organizations statewide to receive a total of $363,922 from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency's Environmental Education Fund to support environmental education programs.
Under the conditions of the grant, Struthers will collaborate with local agencies and Youngstown State University to develop storm-water workshops and a print, video and Internet campaign.
OEEF grants up to $50,000 are funded from 50 percent of the civil penalties collected by the Ohio EPA for air and water pollution control violations, OEPA said.
