Westminster drops third straight

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Case Western Reserve men's basketball team pulled away in the second half of Sunday's game to hand Westminster its third consecutive loss, dropping the Titans 135-120.
Case's Funso Lafe led all scorers with 39 points on 15 of 20 shooting from the field.
For the Titans, senior Mark DeMonaco (New Castle) led the way with team-high totals of 27 points and five assists.
Other double-digit Titan scorers included sophomore guard Craig Hannon (Union) with 20 points off the bench, freshman center Steve Bielich with a career-high 17 points and sophomore forward Brian Urso with 16.
Urso and sophomore forward Jake Zatchok (Western Reserve) each hauled in a team-high six rebounds while senior guard Brian Fadden (Mohawk) tied DeMonaco for team assist honors with five.
Westminster made 21 of 62 3-pointers to just 3 of 4 treys by CWRU, but the Spartans shot 67 percent from the field (54 of 81) to just 40 percent for the Titans (42 of 104) while also holding a 60-46 rebound advantage.
Late Saturday
MONACA, Pa. -- Geneva took a 17-point halftime lead en route to a 88-64 win over Penn State Beaver.
Bamfield Harmon, getting his first start after joining the team late due to football season, scored 16 points in 31 minutes and Kyle McDermott added 22 points on 9 of 15 shooting.
McDermott also had nine rebounds for the Golden Tornadoes (1-3). Nate Conley had 10 assists, while Christian Hauser and Greg McDivitt each added 10 points. PSU is 3-2.
Women
WILMINGTON -- Bethany (1-4) opened up an 11-point halftime lead but it slipped away in the second half as Hanover (Ind.) College won 59-56 in Sunday's consolation game of the Fred Raizk Memorial Tournament.
Bethany was led by senior Jenny Place (Badger), who was named to the all-tournament team after posting 17 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Late Saturday
WILMINGTON -- Place matched a career-high with 22 points but it wasn't enough as the Bison (1-3) fell to Wilmington 96-85 in the first round of the Raizk Tournament.
Place has scored 24 points three times in her career.
Renee Shehady had a career-high 22 points for Bethany. Wilmington was led by Kelly Peters with 24 points and 12 rebounds.
