Mahoning Valley Phantoms top Ice Diggers, 3-1

ALPENA, Mich. -- Drew Satterley scored twice and Ryan Zapolski stopped 22 shots as the Mahoning Valley Phantoms defeated the Alpena Ice Diggers 3-1 Saturday at Northern Lights Arena in North American Hockey League (NAHL) action.
The Phantoms played well defensively in the first period, limiting Alpena to three shots. In the final minute, the Phantoms drew first blood on their fourth power play.
On the left wing goal line, Anthony Ciraulo's second pass attempt through the crease found the stick of Drew Satterley, who slammed the puck past Ice Diggers goalie Johnny Morrow for a 1-0 lead with 30 seconds remaining.
The second period saw the Phantoms give Alpena opportunity after opportunity, including four power plays. Yet the Phantoms extended their lead on Jake Roadhouse's goal.
On the third goal, Satterly used Matt Atsoff and an Ice Digger as a screen, fired a shot past Morrow for his team-leading 11th goal.
The Ice Diggers dented the scoreboard on their sixth power play of the game. Chris Hendrickson scored with a slapshot that rattled off the near post and behind Zapolski to cut the deficit to two.
The Phantoms (12-9-1) outshot Alpena 30-23 with Zapolski recording his ninth win of the season. Morrow finished with 27 saves for Alpena (6-16-3).
The Phantoms return for an extended homestand that begins Wednesday when they take on the Cleveland Jr. Barons. Faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
