Chemical leak is contained on semi
HUBBARD -- A chemical leak from a tractor-trailer was quickly contained after the vehicle pulled into a weigh station off westbound Interstate 80 around 7:40 p.m. Sunday, near the U.S. Route 62/state Route 7 exit.
Five to 10 gallons of butyraldehyde, a highly flammable material, leaked from the vehicle, the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Warren post said. An inspector at the station, about four miles from the Ohio-Pennsylvania state line, noticed the leak when the vehicle pulled in to get weighed, the patrol added.
The westbound portion of I-80 was not shut down, the state patrol noted.
A driver behind the tractor-trailer who complained of feeling ill went to the Petro store near Salt Springs Road to call an ambulance and was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown. It's uncertain if the driver's symptoms were related to exposure to the chemical, the patrol added.
Also at the scene were members of the Trumbull County Hazardous Materials Management Team, Hubbard Township police and the Hubbard Fire Department.
