YSU women suffer third loss to IUPUI, 53-50



BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Youngstown State women's basketball team lost a heartbreaker 53-50 to IUPUI Saturday afternoon in the consolation game of the Hampton Inn Classic.
The Penguins (1-3) led 50-49 with 50 seconds remaining after freshman Megan Snorf scored on a jump shot, but Tanika Mays put IUPUI back on top 51-50 with 24 seconds.
After a timeout, Snorf missed the jumper with 10 seconds remaining and Kia Hayes scored with just two seconds left to give IUPUI the win.
Kristy Gaudiose led the Penguins with 10 points, the only YSU player in double figures. Snorf finished with nine rebounds. YSU shot just 27.3 percent from the field in the second half.
The Penguins will play their home opener on Wednesday against Saint Louis University at 5:15 p.m. The YSU men meet Kent State in the second game of a doubleheader at 7:35.
