Pearl Harbor Massset for Dec. 11
YOUNGSTOWN -- The 64th annual Pearl Harbor Mass, sponsored by VFW Post 1423, is at 10 a.m. Dec. 11 in Sts. Peter & amp; Paul Church, 421 Covington St. All veterans and friends are welcome to attend.
Veterans posts will assemble at 9:30 a.m. in the church with their colors. Refreshments will be served after the Mass. For more information, call Post 1423 Commander John E. Malys at (330) 782-0340.
RETIRED
Petty Officer Oysterends Navy service
Navy veteran Ralph W. Oyster, son of Ralph and Shirley Oyster of Youngstown, has retired from the military after 20 years of service.
Petty Officer Oyster's last duty assignment was as senior enlisted adviser to the public works officer at Souda Bay, Crete, Greece, where troops and materials for the Iraqi war came through from the United States on the way to Iraq.
Oyster, who was a Seabee in the Naval Construction Force, enlisted in 1985 after graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School.
Decorations received during his career include: Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, National Defense Medals, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal.
Oyster retired to Youngstown and plans to take the civil service test for the Youngstown Police Department.

Allen commissionedas second lieutenant
Air Force 2nd Lt. Reginald Allen Jr., a native of Youngstown, was commissioned to his rank after graduating from the Academy of Military Sciences, McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base, Tenn.
Allen, the son of Reginald and Mary Allen, is a 1988 graduate of Ursuline High School and received a degree from Youngstown State University.
Allen will be assigned as a quality assurance officer with the 343th Air Refueling Wing at Grissom Air Reserve Base, Ind.
DEPLOYED
Two from area assignedto the USS Austin
Navy Petty Officers 2nd Class Christopher L. McCall and Aaron A. Henry have been deployed in support of the global war on terrorism.
They are assigned to amphibious landing dock on the USS Austin, a warship that embarks, transports and lands elements of landing forces for expeditionary warfare missions. Amphibious landing docks are generally used by landing craft to transport troops into a war zone.
Henry is a son of Lynda L. Henry of New Castle, Pa.
McCall, son of Patricia V. and Dennis L. McCall of Youngstown, is a 1993 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, Warren.
