Pitt-Bradford 122, Westminster 109
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Despite a team-high 33 points by senior guard Mark DeMonaco, a New Castle High graduate, Westminster lost 122-109 to Pit-Bradford. The Titans' (1-2) Craig Hannon, also of New Castle, added 17 points and Chauncey Whitlow, a Wilson High graduate, finished with 14.
Ryan Race of Pitt-Bradford (2-1) took scoring honors with 40 points.
Bethany 103, Keystone 89
PITTSBURGH -- Bethany College senior forward Matt Drahos scored 25 points and nearly recorded a triple-double as the Bison won in the first round of the Radisson/Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) University Tournament. The Bison improve to 2-2 and will play either Carnegie Mellon or Oberlin College in the championship gametoday at 3 p.m. Keystone falls to 1-3 and will play in the consolation game at 1 p.m. Drahos, who had just two points at halftime, finished with 13 markers, 15 boards and seven assists.
Edinboro 83, PS McKeesport 62
EDINBORO, Pa. -- Six players scored in double figures, including Curtis Ingram, who had 12, for the Fight Scots (3-0). Edinboro shot a season-high 60.6 percent from the floor while holding McKeesport to 38 percent.
Women
Thiel 82, Carnegie Mellon 62
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Tomcats picked up their first win as freshman forward Amber Bodrick (Boardman/Mooney) led the way, finishing with 18 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Junior forward Nicole Valentino (Sharon/Sharon High) tossed in 16 points and four rebounds while junior forward Fontella Jones (Farrell/Farrell) and senior guard Heather Abate added 14 and 10, respectively. Thiel is 1-3. Rachelle Roll led the Tartans (0-3) with 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Thiel will return to action on Wednesday when the Tomcats travel to Marietta College for a 7:30 p.m. start.
