CENTRAL HOCKEY LEAGUE SteelHounds suffer 3-2 defeat



Corpus Christi rallied to hand Youngstown its fourth straight loss at home.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Dave Gilmore's unassisted power-play goal at 16:09 of elapsed time in the third period capped a two-goal rally by the Corpus Christi Rayz.
The comeback gave the Rayz a 3-2 win over the Youngstown SteelHounds Saturday in a Central Hockey League game at the Chevrolet Centre.
The SteelHounds had a 2-1 lead, but Josh Miskovich scored a goal at 13:41 of the third period on assists from Jonathan Foster and Dave Gilmore to pull the Rayz into a 2-2 tie.
The Rayz' back-to-back goals were scored within a brief stretch of 2:18 for the come-from-behind win.
Youngstown got its 2-1 lead on Darryl Lloyd's 10th goal of the season at 5:50 of the final period.
The Rayz improved to an 8-7-0 record with 16 points in the Southeast Division and are now 4-4 on the road.
Youngstown fell to 6-9-1 in Northeast Division, losing for the fourth time in a row at home. The SteelHounds now have lost six of their last seven games overall, and are 0-2 in their current six-game homestand.

The SteelHounds' next opponent will be the Lubbock Cotton Kings. They will play Friday and Saturday at the Chevrolet Centre at 7:05 p.m.
Derrick McIver gave Corpus Christi a 1-0 lead at 17:06 of the first period with his fifth goal of the season on a power play with assists from Shawn Legault and Randy Murphy.
But about 10 minutes later, the SteelHounds tied it at 1-1 on recent-addition Jonathan Gagnon's first goal of the season. Gagnon, in his second game with the SteelHounds, scored at 7:00 on assists from Jeff Christian and Chris Richards.
Neither team could penetrate the opponent's net in the second period. The SteelHounds were 0-for-2 on power play opportunities in that period while the Rayz failed in their only power-play attempt.
The Rayz outshot the SteelHounds, 27-23, including 9-5 in final period. Corpus Christi goalie Scott Reid had 21 saves and evened his record at 6-6, while SteelHounds' goalie Simon St. Pierre, who was pulled at 1:09 of the final period had 24 saves and fell to 4-4 overall.
The Rayz scored on two of four power plays while the SteelHounds went 0-for-4.
