Police investigate attempted robbery on the city's South Side

YOUNGSTOWN -- City police are investigating an attempted robbery and burglary, both of which occurred Friday on the city's South Side.
The owner of Antique Alley at 104 E. Midlothian Blvd. told police a man came in around noon and asked to look at an item at the front of the shop, then demanded money.
He said he knew she had a cash drawer under the front counter. She showed him the cash drawer, which was empty. When he then demanded money from her wallet, she said she does not carry cash.
He then grabbed her, and after a short struggle, she pushed him out of the way. He ran out the back door and ran along LaBelle Avenue. Police followed his footprints in the snow but did not find the man. The woman said the man kept his hand in his pocket the entire time as if he had a gun, but she did not see one.
Meanwhile, the owner of DBS Auto Sales at 2416 South Ave. told police around 3:20 p.m. Friday she and a friend discovered a computer, printer, telephone, dealer license plate, and keys to 25 cars on the lot missing, and that someone gained entry to the building from a side window and went out the front door.
She said the business had been closed since 4 p.m. Wednesday.
