Police capture pinkie-less fugitive
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) -- A burglary suspect who was able to slip out of handcuffs because of a missing pinkie finger was captured after two weeks on the lam, police said.
Sean Thomas Quinn, 35, was spotted at a housing development in Kingston Township around noon Wednesday. He was eventually caught around 9 p.m. as he tried to flee on a bicycle, authorities said.
Quinn escaped from the back of an Old Forge police car after he and another man were arrested Nov. 9 in connection with a restaurant burglary. Quinn wriggled out of his handcuffs, opened a safety window between the back and front seats and took off in the car, police said.
A second police vehicle that pursued Quinn crashed into a house, injuring an officer and the other burglary suspect. Quinn continued driving until he crashed and then fled on foot, police said. A manhunt involving more than 100 police failed to find him.
On Wednesday, a tip led police to the Checkerboard Inn, according to Kingston Township Police Chief James Balavage.
Investigators spotted Quinn riding a bicycle and he again tried to escape, but eventually surrendered after he was surrounded, authorities said.
Quinn faces charges including escape, theft, fleeing or attempting to elude and related counts. He was being held at the Lackawanna County Prison on $200,000 bail Thursday. It could not immediately be determined if he had an attorney.
