Board to certify results of election

WARREN -- The Trumbull County Board of Elections will meet at 9:30 a.m. Monday to certify results of the Nov. 8 election.
The elections board checks the vote totals it reported on election night against the numbers of people who voted, to see if all of the numbers are right, said elections Director Kelly S. Pallante.
By law, the elections board also checks the provisional ballots for the first time during this period and counts the absentee ballots.
Provisional ballots are those cast by people who did not change their address at least 30 days before the election. They vote at a polling place or at the board of election office on a paper ballot. Once their address is confirmed by the elections board, their vote is counted, Pallante said.
Absentee ballots are cast by those who cannot come to their regular polling place because of such reasons as age, disability or service in the armed forces.
Only 10 votes separate the contestants in Warren's 3rd Ward race. Republican George Brown, a 20-year-old Youngstown State University student, received 1,127 votes, compared to Democrat Andy Barkley, who received 1,117.
