AUSTINTOWN -- The township's annual Christmas tree-lighting ceremony will be at 6:45 p.m. Thursday.
The festivities will be on the north side of Wickliffe Circle Park, beginning with an outdoor sing-along.
Thanksgiving jam
YOUNGSTOWN -- The third annual Thanksgiving jam is planned for 6 p.m. Saturday at Ebenezer Church of God in Christ, 566 W. Indianola Ave. Performers will be G2, music ministry of Kansas City, Kan.; Complete, a gospel singer; Image, a Christian rapper; and Holy Ruckus and the Voices of Hope. Soul Winner, a minister and Christian rap artist of New Spirit Revival Center in Cleveland and a radio host, also will perform.
Zoning department job
NORTH LIMA -- Beaver Township Zoning Department will be accepting r & eacute;sum & eacute;s/applications for an alternate and full-time position on the township zoning commission until Dec. 14. 2 types of shots offered
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown City Health District will offer influenza and pneumonia shots at the following locations and times:
* YWCA, 25 W. Rayen Ave.: Tuesday 9 to 11 a.m.
* City Health Department, 345 Oakhill Ave.: Wednesday and Dec. 7, both from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Flu shots are $10 and pneumonia shots are $30. There may be no out-of-pocket cost for Medicaid or Medicare Part B recipients, but they must bring their cards to be eligible.
Storage lot to open
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mill Creek MetroParks' wood storage lot on West Golf Drive, just south of Stitt Pavilion, will be open Dec. 3 for those wishing to collect firewood.
There is no fee, but individuals must cut and load their own wood. The lot will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Only 15 vehicles will be allowed in the storage lot at any one time. Trucks larger than pickup size and trailers attached to trucks are not allowed. Automobiles with trailers under eight feet are allowed. For information, call (330) 702-3000.
PTO family movie night
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- The Springfield Local PTO will hold a family movie night at 7 p.m. Dec. 9 at the high school on state Route 170. The feature presentation will be "The Polar Express." Admission is $1 and proceeds benefit the PTO.
Guided tours of homes
HOWLAND -- A Holiday Tour of Homes sponsored by Howland Community Church will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Dec. 3. Four homes decorated for Christmas will be open for guided tours. Tickets costing $8 each are available during business hours at the church, 198 state Route 46, or from noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 3 at the church. For information, (330) 856-3628.
Caroling and music
BRISTOLVILLE -- The Bristol Park Lighting and Carol Sing will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at state Routes 45 and 88. The Bristol High School Madrigal Singers will perform Christmas music, followed by caroling. Refreshments will be served afterward. Donations to help defray expenses can be sent to Bristol Township trustees, Box 254, Bristolville, 44402.
Flu vaccines available
GIRARD -- The City Health Department is offering flu vaccine to city residents age 65 and older, and those at-risk with medical conditions, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at city hall, 100 W. Main St. The cost is $15 per shot. Medicare, Railroad Medicare and Anthem Senior Advantage will be accepted. Call (330) 545-6048 for more information.
Healthy snacks program
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- UPMC Horizon Wellness Center will present "Smart Snacking," a program for children under age 13, from 7 to 8 p.m. Dec. 6. This program is free and open to the public.
Christopher Cox, registered dietitian, will offer tips on nutritious snacking. Healthy snacks will be available for sampling.
