ON THE SIDE. . .
This and that from the world of Valley politics.
LEGISLATOR OF THE YEAR: The Ohio Child Support Enforcement Agency Directors' Association awarded its 2005 Legislator of the Year award to state Rep. Sandra Stabile Harwood of Niles, D-65th, for her commitment to improving the lives of children in the state. Before being elected in 2002 to the state House, Stabile Harwood worked as Trumbull County CSEA's in-house counsel and hearing officer.
CLEAR MEANING: Like many other members of Congress, U.S. Rep. Ted Strickland of Lisbon, D-6th, sends a lot of press releases to the media. There typically isn't anything of great interest in many of them, but I still take a look. I'm glad I did with a recent one about the failed congressional resolution to immediately withdraw troops from Iraq. Strickland states in the release that the "resolution provides no definition of what was meant by 'immediately.'" I don't know about Strickland, but to me "immediately" means "immediately." I suppose if President Clinton can't figure out what the "meaning of the word 'is' is," we can forgive Strickland for not knowing the meaning of "immediately," a word with more letters.
