Christmas in the Valley set Saturday



Events include a parade and the annual village tree-lighting.
McDONALD -- The 13th annual Christmas in the Valley will be from 5:45 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Ramsay Pavilion on the corner of Ohio Avenue.
The parade will kick off events, beginning at the top of Ohio Avenue at Marshall Road and continuing to just past the municipal building.
The parade will feature the McDonald Fire Department, various police departments, the Outbackers, Quiznos subs, Papa John Pizza with the Slice, Sponge Bob and the Grinch and Pammy's Puppy parade with dogs, among other entrants.
The parade will finish with Santa and Mrs. Claus riding in a sleigh at the end of the group.
Twenty crafters will be on the grounds for Christmas shopping, food will be served, including Kettle Korn, and a large bonfire is planned from 4 to 6 p.m.
Carriage rides
Horse-drawn carriages, including one for 12 people and a second for four to six people, will be available at $5 for adults and $2 for children.
Pictures with Santa will be $5. Molley the Trolley rides are also planned at $1 for adults, and children 12 and under, free.
The annual village tree-lighting ceremony will also take place and there will be Christmas caroling.
A Chinese auction at the fire station starting at 5 p.m. pays for the event, and any profits are donated to needy families in the village.
Christmas in the Valley started in McDonald two years ago, after being held in Girard for several years. McDonald Lions Club now sponsors the event. All items for the Chinese auction are donated by area businesses, and tickets for the auction are one for $1, six for $5 or 15 for $10.
