Penguins women get first win at OU
ATHENS -- The Youngstown State women's basketball team posted its first victory of the season with an impressive 69-59 victory over Ohio University.
The Penguins (1-1) shot 50 percent from the field in the second half and outscored the Bobcats 42-36 in the final 20 minutes of play.
Sophomore Jessica Schloemp sparked the Penguins with a 17-point, 10-rebound performance. Sophomore Lauren Branson added 12 points while senior Ashlee Russo chipped in with 10 points.
Ohio (1-2) was led by Simone Redd with 17 points while KeyAuna Jenkins added 11 and Ciara Iglehart had 10.
The Penguins were only 3-of 21 from 3-point range, but the Bobcats were even worse, hitting just 1-of-9.
YSU outrebounded the Bobcats 38-33, while freshman Megan Snorf added seven.
The Penguins continue on their four-game season-opening road trip Friday when they visit Indiana University for the opening round of the Indiana Tournament against the host Hoosiers.
