State police to crack down on traffic violations over holiday

HARRISBURG -- Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Jeffrey B. Miller urges motorists to drive defensively and buckle up during the heavily traveled Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
Miller urges people to drive defensively, obey the speed limit, leave plenty of room between cars and be courteous to other drivers.
He also adds that wearing a seat belt is important.
Miller said state police are participating in a national "Click It or Ticket" campaign through Sunday. If a driver is stopped for a traffic violation and anyone in the vehicle is not properly restrained, the driver will get two tickets, he said, one for the traffic violation and one for the seat-belt violation.
"Our goal is not to write more citations, but to send a strong message that seat belts and child safety seats save lives," Miller said.
State police will offer free child safety seat inspections at various locations around the state. Call any state police barracks or visit www.psp.state.pa.us to find a location.
State police are also participating in Operation C.A.R.E., a national program aimed at reducing crashes on interstate highways during holiday weekends.
The official Thanksgiving driving period begins Wednesday.
